Project

A Hui Hou Album Recording Package

A series of paintings used as album art for Yoshi Morimoto’s debut album, A Hui Hou. The project was entirely open ended based on my emotional response toward each song, while tying the work together using a sedated, tropical styling for the type, background coloring, and subject matter.

I began with gestural thumbnails of each piece, then painted several versions of each until each painting carried the emotional resonance of the song. As seen, I went through many revisions of the best way to compose the artwork until the artist and I decided that showing the work at full scale with evocative symbols would express each song best, although I do love seeing the paintings without any additional assets.

Revised Branding & Website UX & UI

Renewed branding & redesigned website for the zero-waste organization rePurpose. The overarching aim for this rebrand was to create a minimized and contemporary version of the website and branding, while maintaining the organization’s existing identity.

Knowing this, I kept the existing logo and mark and simplified the pallete to several colors of varying hues. I wanted to maintain the natural, grassroots tone, which lead me to using an organic, scrapbooky feel with the multitude of illustrations I made to represent the program offerings. My biggest learning experience through this project was improving on HTML coding, utilizing it especially with front end structual changes and graphic needs.

“In the Morning of the Magicians”
Visual Accompaniment

Link to Full Piece
A longtime obsession of mine is understanding the connection between sound and sight, and how music can be visually articulated. To explore this, I chose one of my favorite songs from The Flaming Lips and translated it visually with practical elements, by observing the form and color each instrument made in my mind. The project is meant to elevate the listening experience by stimulating both your eyes and ears, and to let yourself discover new aspects of the song that would otherwise be unnoticed.

The process of mapping out visual forms to each instrument was easier than I thought, but the greatest struggle with this project was keeping each section of the song interesting and new. The song is six minutes long with a repetitive structure, and my solution to the similarities was to represent each new instrument with a higher priority of higherarchy and changing the colors of the backgrounds as the structure changed, as if you were entering a different environment.

Raynewear

I’ve been designing clothing graphics since 2019; working on wearable design has unlimited possibilities and I love the idea of clothing being more than just functional.

I’ve designed many pieces and have lately been handmaking the garments myself, to better immerse myself in the materiality and construction of clothing. I’m interested in challenging the shapes of conventional forms and graphics used for t-shirts, which can be seen most directly in my 2024 collection.
